Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How can I become an Occupational Therapist?
You will need to complete an undergraduate degree (bachelor’s level) and a graduate level degree (master’s or doctorate-level) to become an OT. It is likely that by 2027, all Occupational Therapy programs will be required to move to a doctoral level, however, those who have completed an accredited master’s level program before then will be grandfathered in. Plan on spending 5 to 7 years on collegiate education and clinical practicum.
How much money do Occupational Therapists make?
On average, OTs make about $86,000 (with an average range of $70,000 to $104,000). When starting out, you will likely make around $65,000 per year (with a total range of $24,000 to $145,000).
Who do OTs work with?
Occupational Therapists work with individuals of all ages. They assess physical, sensory, emotional and cognitive capabilities, develop goals and execute treatment plans. OTs teach patients (or clients) to perform daily tasks, with or without assistive technology. They help build functional skills, generate solutions to promote independence and educate patients and families on a variety of topics.
