Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How can I become a Behavioral Intervention Provider?

In Idaho, there are both independent BI providers and those who work through an agency or school. Independent providers must be approved by the State and meet certain education and experience criteria. There are 7 different State-defined categories for intervention and you can find a summary about these categories and the enrollment process here. You can also view step-by-step instructions here.

You can find information about Oregon’s Behavior Rehabilitation Services program here.

How much money do Behavioral Intervention Providers make?

According to Zippia, BIs make an average of $39,000 annually (with a range of $29,000 to $51,000). In Idaho, Independent BIs are paid $40-50+ per hour for billable hours. (It’s important to note that not all hours worked are billable and Independent BIs have expenses that they must pay for, such as liability insurance and mileage.)

Who do Behavioral Interventionists work with?

BIs help individuals with developmental, behavioral and/or cognitive challenges to decrease, change and/or replace maladaptive behaviors. This may include children, adults and seniors. BIs often work in residential, educational, clinical and community settings.
